T Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) inaugurated on Saturday a new service station in Krayan subdistrict in Nunukan, East Kalimantan, near the border of Serawak, Malaysian.
Vickner Sinaga, PLN’s operations director for eastern Indonesia, said on Sunday that the state power firm expected that the station would supplement the electricity supply for the 8,000 or so residents of Krayan.
“We have repaired the power system in Krayan and plan to expand the electricity network for both high voltage and medium voltage so that we can serve all citizens in the subdistrict,” Vickner said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post. Power in the area is currently provided by an existing 30 kilowatt (kW) micro-hydro power plant (PLTMH) and a 250 kilovolt-ampere (kVA) the diesel power station (PLTD).
Also on Saturday, PLN broke ground on the 2x300 kW Pa Ramayo micro-hydro power plant in Krayan. Construction is expected to be complete within 12 months.
PLN previously announced plans planned to build micro-hydro power plants in Lembudud and Long Midang in Krayan to provide electricity for residents using untapped hydropower resources in the area.
